It was another great weekend in true Sunblazer fashion! Here's a bit of a recap by Annis:
Virginia, Laurie and Beth arrived in The Bake around 3:00. Then, close to 5:30, Terri arrived and we all
took off to Lamont for dinner at El Pueblo. There we joined Trudy, Syl, Carla, and Kelly; soon Shirley, her
friend Laurie from work , and Debi arrived. The food was outstanding, and those who had margaritas and
pina coladas were happy, too. Saturday morning we had to jumpstart my bike, but we were ahead of
schedule and got away from the house on time to meet up with the gang at the Chevron station on Oswell at
Hwy 58. Carla, Elizabeth, Trudy , & Syl awaited us. After gassing up, Terri's bike wouldn't start. Syl got on
the bike and several of us started pushing it down Brundage. You know how Syl is, that bike started UP!
And, soon we were on our way to Tehachapi.
The entourage included eight bikes (Judy riding 2-up with me) and Beth in her little Honda Civic as we
made our way out 58 and onto the Tehachapi Loop road and into town to Diane's, where she and Steve had
laid out a lovely breakfast/brunch spread for us. We played the first two games of the day (dice roll and
cards). Soon, with JC riding 2-up with Steve, Diane led us out of town for the 2nd leg of the ride to Virginia's
via the Poppy Reserve.
The poppies were out in full force -- a sea of orange in the desert! After a U-turn in the driveway to the
Visitors' Center (too crowded and $$), we found a great spot to park alongside the road. That's the stop
where some of those wonderful poppy-field photos were taken. Right on schedule, we reached Virginia's for
some delicious build-your-own deli sandwiches and salads, and we also played Jacks and Barrel of
Monkeys. Judy is still the reigning Sunblazers Jacks Champ, getting into her foursies.
With sixty or so miles to go on the back roads over through Lake Hughes and on to Castaic, we got a
move on, and picked up Keith at the Rock Inn. Then, we were ready for our last stop of the day at Terri and
Keith's, where Terri had baked cookies and brownies for us and had the makings for build-your-own
sundaes. (A Sunblazer LOVES a build-your-own thing.) We got a chance to have a leisurely look through the
creative yearbooks that Terri has put together for the club. And, those who hadn't seen the Members Pages
that many of us submitted in December really enjoyed those. We all did.
A few of us still had the Barrel of Monkeys game to do and then we ended the game play with "Toss &
Ride". Our Judy won the prize money.
Before we knew it, it was time to head for home up I-5 and 99. Virginia, Judy, and Beth in the car, and the
rest of us dropping off at our respective off-ramps -- Carla and Elizabeth at Frazier Park, Laurie and I at
White Lane, waving to Trudy and Syl as they continued north.
Everyone got away on time on Sunday morning, and we've heard that all arrived safely at their
destinations!
Thanks to each of our hosts for their unbeatable hospitality and to Virginia for planning the day.
Another great time with friends, fun, riding, photos, and food. Does it get any better? Here's to many more
happy Sunblazer events!
