Welcome to AZ & a 30 minute downpour just before Flagstaff.
|
We checked out dinosaur tracks and bones just west of Tuba City
|
A little flora along the way to The Hopi Culture Center at First Mesa in Shungopavi where we dined on Hopi food and enjoyed their museum.
|
Back out in the parking lot of The Hopi
Center we had to jump Trudy's bike during a
torrential downpour. Rode to Second Mesa
at Polacca for gas at the Mustang, jumped it
again, then rode south on Hwy 87 to
Winslow. Two days later found us towed to
Snowflake for repairs. Sylvia helped load the
bike and Chelli carried most of Trudy's gear.
Found out it was a malfunctioning starter
relay switch (that also ran the fan & lights)
and that there were 37 of them on backorder
in AZ alone. A screw driver to the solenoid
put us back on the road for another week.
A quick peek at the hogon
(above) we would have stayed
in at Spider Rock off Hwy 7 for
two nights had we not broke
down. After glancing over the
canyon walls we took Hwy 13
across Buffalo Pass onto Hwy
491 into Shiprock NM straight
up to Cortez CO, where we met
up with Kim & Rose from TX.
Picture to the right is the view
on the eastern side of Buffalo
Pass from 9,000 feet.
Heading north from Snowflake on Hwys 6, 15 & 191 to Chinle

Heading out of Mesa Verde on Hwy160 to the Four Corners Monument then onto Hwy191 & 163 to Mexican Hat where we rested and bought our last gas for 160mi
